Desktop Sync Version Conflicts When None Exist

Jump to solution

[I posted to another thread, but didn't get an answer; maybe because that thread was "answered".]

I'm using Desktop Sync 8.5.2 (167002) already, and didn't notice this with 8.5.1, but maybe because I didn't use the troublesome editor on that version.

My case is similar to Quinn's, but opposite.  I am the only one writing a file on my local drive, which is sync'ed to Egnyte.  I have a file open, and I save to it fairly often.  When I save it, Egnyte pops up a conflict notice, even though no-one else is touching it.  If I close the editor, Egnyte corrupts my copy of the file (the editor won't read it any more), and moves the correct file to a new name with "(conflict copy...".  My editor can't open files with parenthesis, so I have to stop everything I'm doing, and fix it.

Some details:

  1. The editor is Rockwell's RSLogix5000.  It is running inside a virtual machine, and sync is running on the host.  So to sync, the file mysteriously changes, and is locked for edit by "VMware Workstation VMX".
  2. the file is only about 400kB
  3. The file is not read-only or hidden.
  4. When I save, a backup file is always generated.  It is likely, X.ACD is renamed to X.BAK000.ACD, then a new X.ACD is created.
  5. The conflict pops up almost every time I save.

#4 seems like the most important detail.

I've had similar issues with a different program that generates a "xyz.exe" folder, fills it with data, then compresses it into "xyz.exe" file.  The quick replacement of a folder with a file of the same name causes issues, but not quite the same way.  It's more random, and seems to depend on whether the folder is found by sync before it is converted.

Hi Jon,

Thank you for writing to us. I think it is best that our support team looks into this issue. The forum would limit us to troubleshoot this issue.

If this issue persists, then I would encourage you to file a support ticket at support@egnyte.com. This will make way for a phone call + web conference as and when required. At the same time, issues from the support team can also be escalated to the engineering team if required.
