Sync error - failed to connect due to protocol error

Jump to solution

I have one PC that can no longer sync. The error message is: sync failed due to protocol error.

What is even stranger is that when I click on "Configure Folders" in the web interface nothing is displayed; there are no folders. BUT I can see the folders in my file explorer on windows under Egnyte and the networked folder.

This system has been a pain; for a while it had both the old Local Cloud folder and the newer Egnyte folder.

So rather than go down rat holes trying to fix the problems, I would like to do a clean re-install of Egnyte. Uninstall Egnyte on this PC and start from scratch with a new install. I can't find any instructions on the best way to do it.

Any suggestions?

Ed

Hello @Pinnco,

Thank you reaching out.

The process is quite simple. Here are the steps to follow: -

https://helpdesk.egnyte.com/hc/en-us/articles/201636644-How-to-uninstall-Egnyte-Desktop-Sync-

If you are not looking to keep the Local Cloud folder, then you can delete this folder too. This means after following the above link and deleting the Local Cloud folder will make your system clean of any previous installs. You can then follow the link below for a fresh installation: -

https://helpdesk.egnyte.com/hc/en-us/articles/201636994-Desktop-Sync-for-Windows-Installation-Upgrad...

I hope these links help. Let us know if you need any help.

Thanks.

Thanks. I did the uninstall and re-install successfully.

By the way - didn't see an option to "select as solution"?

@Ed22, The "Accept as Solution" button is actually only available to the member who originally asked the question. For this post, @Pinnco would need to click on "Accept as Solution." Thank you for looking for it though! It definitely helps other members find the solution quickly when it's properly marked.

Best,
- Julie
