How does one search the forum?
You know this already - this forum is archaic, clumsy, and feature poor.
Thanks for your question; we're currently looking into this.
In the meantime, if you perform a search from elsewhere in the helpdesk, it will also search through and pull results from the forums. Hope this helps.
One option (albeit one that takes you off of the Egnyte Support site) is to use Google's site specific search. If you start your Google query with site:https://helpdesk.egnyte.com/hc/communities/ and then your search word it will only return links to the Egnyte forum. To search for a specific phrase make sure to surround it with quotation marks. The following typed into a Google search would find this post along with links to it:
site:https://helpdesk.egnyte.com/hc/communities/ "search the forum"
Thanks for your suggestion—this sounds like a good alternative for now. We'll continue looking into this as well, though.
"this forum is archaic, clumsy, and feature poor"
Yep, and it has been for at least 5 years. Egnyte appears to not see any value in creating a user forum that would encourage participation. I'd understand if it were a huge challenge, but it's not, there are tons of great forums that can be set up quickly and easily. And it's not like there is a lot of content here that would need to be moved - there's virtually no content because the forums are so bad no one uses them.
We focused on revamping our knowledge base during Q3 this year. Now that project is complete, our team is turning our focus to building an active user community. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for our Community.
Hi Cara, thanks for asking. Invision forums is an outstanding one many companies use. Take a look at Evernote forums if you want to see it in action.
Of course there is also vBulletn and GetSatisfaction. Personally I dislike Get Satisfaction and think it's also a bad forum that makes people less likely to participate.
Egnyte transforms business through smarter content allowing organizations to connect, protect, and unlock value from all their content.
