Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions

Hi, I would love to have a feature to replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from the object (similar to Windows advanced permissions). This way, if I want to force a specific folder and all sub-folders/files with a specific permission, it can be done quickly.

Agreed, need to be able to force propagate parent folder permissions to all folders/files within that parent folder.

@Josh Leung and @Brent Johnson1 - are you asking for a feature where you can replace all of the permissions underneath a folder with the permissions of the current folder, or are you asking about doing for just a single permission, e.g. John Smith should have Editor access on this folder and everything below it.

A feature to replace all of the permissions of subfolders/files with the parent folder and forcing all of the subfolders/files to be inheriting permissions from that current folder and nothing else.

Agree, subfolder permissions often get set improperly and it's hard to figure out what they are.  A switch that forces subfolders to inherit permissions from a parent folder and overwrite whatever subfolder permissions that exist would be ideal.

@GregNeustaetter does this answer your question? A feature to only adjust the parent folder's permission and force propogate that set of permissions to ALL subfolders, no matter if it's inheriting or not. It will automatically switch all subfolders to inherit the parent folders permission.

@GregNeustaetter Just curious if this idea is being considered. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I'd like to clarify -  what if you have a case when somewhere down the folder tree there is a specific folder (e.g. "Budget") so that not everyone who has access to the parent folder should have access to the child one? Is it safe to assume that whenever the feature (to force the permissions to ALL subfolders) is used, Admin does not care about such cases?

vobernikhin - in answer to your question, yes, we would not care about such cases.  We often move files/folders into a folder that we only want admins to access.  I'm looking for the ability to force the admin only permissions to all sub files/folders in the admin-only folder.  Ideally, the permissions would automatically be switched for any file or folder moved into the parent, but manual permission propogation is a good start.

Yes, admins who know what they are doing generally will audit the all of the child folders to see if there are any folders that are NOT inheritting permissions from the parent folder. This way, when admins are forcing all child folders to now inherit, it is done intentionally to replace all permisisons. It's just an easy way to reset permissions if permissions somehow got out of whack over the years.

Got it. Thanks, guys.

No promise at this point, but, yes we will consider it - I see the value.
