I would like the ability to set a storage quota per user as we on-sell the backup service. Logging in each month and checking their usage is not a streamlined process for us.
I have a few users who save EVERYTHING and quotas would be helpful with enforcing my emails to them to clean up their documents. We have a very generous amount of space on Egnyte - but the problem is - when we have to reimage a computer and install Egnyte desktop - it takes days to retrieve everything from the cloud. I have a decent internet connection at work - it's just A LOT of data.
Is there any estimate as to when this might be available? Is the team working on it or is it still in discussion? I would even settle for a workaround to the problem. :)
Thanks for the quick response.
Thanks for providing more details. Unfortunately, folder quotas is not something that we're currently looking at doing. We will certainly continue to monitor this if more customers request the feature. However, we believe that the amount of storage we provide our customers actually addresses the biggest concerns around folder quotas.
In situations like this, do your users need to sync everything to their desktops? Why not selectively synchronize some folders, leaving the rest in the cloud? Hope this suggestion helps.
That's unfortunate. The largest group is our Development team. I only sync their folder to their computer... No one else has that folder because it would take days to sync. It's just annoying because I wish I could set a quota on their folder to ensure they are not using too much space. For now, I will continue to monitor their folders and send periodic emails to enforce this rule. Thanks for the feedback.
I am also interested in this feature being added in the future. People think they can save whatever they want and don't care how much space they use.
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, adding folder quotas is not currently on our roadmap. However, I'll share your feedback with our product team and add you as a +1 for this feature.
How would you use folder quotas in your organization? Are there specific folders that you're worried about (e.g. your users' private folders)?
This has been requested multiple times, and if possible i would like an update.
We currently disable private folders because we don't want people to have access to the whole storage space in Egnyte. Potentially people can upload GB's of files which would mean we have to spend time managing personal folders. Having a storage quota would allow us to be 100% sure our users can't take up too much space. Plus, if we even talk about migration, having to migrate GB's of of our users private folders will be much more time consuming.
I'm sure after all these feature requests Egnyte would hopefully have this on track? Most of the other providers such as Sharepoint and Sharefile offer quotas. I'm sure a lot of Egnyte's customers are using other service's because of this missing, very generic feature.
I understand your point and agree that this has been requested quite a few times now.
This is not on our short term road map. As per the last update from our Product Team, we are working first on constructing reports to provide information on Shared/Private size. Thereafter, in the long term we can work on providing configurable limits on those private folders. I already see an engineering ticket filed for this feature request. However, there is no ETA specified yet.
I hope this feature finds its way soon enough.
I agree, this feature must be added! We are new to Egnyte this week, and was shocked to find this basic option wasn't included. #1 rule of IT. Limited the users so they do not create an issue. I suspect they are not adding this feature because it would cut into growth profits if you could actually limit and manage the space you paid for. As a new Customer I would like to see this added to the roadmap ASAP. Everything else about the service so far is really nice! #storagesync
I would also like to see this functionality implemented for the same reasons as stated above.
Egnyte transforms business through smarter content allowing organizations to connect, protect, and unlock value from all their content.
