Sluggish OLE operations? - object linked embedded files take ages to open...
We have a multitude of files in the cloud, and all our users have mapped our Egnyte cloud drive to an M/: drive. All the links (between Excel and Excel, or Excel and Word) seem to work but they are exceedingly slow to open.
We had the same file structure on our local server and linked files would open within 10-15 seconds. Now, with the files on the Egnyte cloud set-up (same file structure), we've had to wait upwards of 20 minutes for the "linking" to complete. This seems crazy. Is there a way to speed this up? Our internet connection is quite fast (100+MBPS) yet we still have this enormous lag time, especially with our Word files which often have more than 50+ embedded Excel links.
On the local server the files are accessed over the LAN, while in Desktop App, they are fetched from the cloud. This means that the links are also refreshed and fetched in the parent file. A bit of latency as compared to local server can be expected. However, over 20 mins is indeed quite crazy.
As an alternative, I would like to know if you ever thought of using the Turbo appliance. Turbo is a great solution and a next generation hybrid technology platform from Egnyte. I suggest you review the following links before fully deciding whether or not Turbo is right for you. Here are some key articles to review:
